FAQs About Plunge Pools

How long does installation take?
Most plunge pool installations are completed within a day once the site is prepared and the shell is delivered. Excavation and groundwork are typically done in the days prior. Your total project timeline from order to water will depend on your location and site conditions — we’ll give you a clear schedule upfront.
Do I need council approval?
In most Australian states, a plunge pool under a certain size and depth requires a building permit but not full development approval. Requirements vary by council and property. We recommend checking with your local council early — we can point you in the right direction.
What’s the difference between a plunge pool and a swim spa?
A plunge pool is designed for immersion, relaxation, and cold therapy — not lap swimming. It’s smaller, simpler, and cheaper to run. A swim spa includes jets for resistance swimming. If you want to swim laps in a compact space, a swim spa may suit better; if you want to soak, recover, or relax, a plunge pool is the right choice.
Can I heat my plunge pool?
Yes. We supply heaters as an optional extra, so you can use your pool year-round — cold in summer, warm in winter. A heated plunge pool with lighting is a genuinely all-season outdoor feature.
How do I maintain a plunge pool?
Maintenance is straightforward. With the right pump, filter, and sanitiser setup — all available from AquaVale — a plunge pool takes around 15–30 minutes per week to keep clean and balanced. We’ll advise on the right equipment for your shell size.
Can the shell be installed above ground or semi-recessed?
Yes. Fibreglass shells can be fully inground, semi-inground, or above ground depending on your yard, budget, and aesthetic preference. Each option has different groundwork requirements — we can walk you through what suits your site.
